Ben Cooper's Odds and Ends
Приєднався 22 січ 2011
Hi. My name is Ben. These days I mostly work under the stage name "Radical Face", but I have always dabbled in side projects when my ideas don't fit my main project. This UA-cam channel is the home for all of the one-offs and various experiments.
Human Mother - You'll Never Know
So this song came about because a friend of mine wrote a script for a TV show, and he asked if I wanted to write a song based on the concept. The time period is the early 90s, and it's from the point of view of a young woman in her late teens/early twenties who's started a band. I wrote and recorded everything for the song in one day, and I mixed and mastered it the next.
As for the artwork, this was just an unrelated painting I made on my ipad. But I thought it kinda fit.
LYRICS:
So we
We were always just you
And what you wanted to do
But now that I'm gone
There's no more chances
And you might still think
that you know all there is to know
Well ...
You will never
You will never know
You'll never know the things I'll be
And you'll never see the things I'll see
And you'll never know how much I hate you
Time always proves
Just who is who
And I watched as time did a number on you
Now that we're through
I see straight through you
You never learned because you thought you always knew
You will never
You will never know
You'll never know the things I'll be
And you'll never see the things I'll see
And you'll never know how much I hate you

Human Mother - See You On The Other Side
Переглядів 1 тис.6 місяців тому
Human Mother is the moniker I use when making music without any agenda. It's a side project for whims and experiments, where I can make music the way I did in the beginning simply as something fun to do. I have no concept of albums or genre with these songs. They're just what happens in the studio that particular day. This one came from messing around with a problematic vocoder. LYRICS: I see y...
Human Mother - My Dad Smokes Weed

Human Mother is my most recent side project one where I have no restrictions on genre, style, content or humor. I have missed making music with no big picture in mind, purely for the fun of it, so I started a new project where that's the goal. Side note: I got the name from my friend's wedding. The officiator said something along the lines of, "And not only for our Heavenly Father, but also for...

I have missed making music with no big picture in mind, purely for the fun of it, so I started a new project where that as the goal. Forewarning, it will probably get pretty weird at times. Side note: I got the name from my friend's wedding. The woman speaking said something along the...

Radical Face - Always Gold Guitar Tutorial

Here's the tutorial on Always Gold. I'm not sure how helpful it is, as the song has a good amount of finger picking in it and I'm not entirely sure how to communicate that. But I figure you can at least get all the chords and maybe put the rest together yourself.
Radical Face - Ghost Towns (Acoustic)

When playing live, I often don't have anywhere near the instruments available that I use on records, so I wind up writing new versions of most songs. This is how I arranged Ghost Towns for just singing and guitar. The audio is from the camera, so it isn't the best, but it's decent enough.
Radical Face - Always Gold [Official Video]

For this video, I wrote a treatment that followed the song's story. It follows a couple of brothers, and is from the point of view of the one who's always around to clean up the other's messes and get him out of trouble. My friend, Brian, was kind enough to both play my brother in the video and let us use his house (taking it apart in the process). We made the whole thing for under 50 bucks sin...
Electric President - The City and The Machines [lyrics]

This song was originally given to the "Anything For Progress" compilation to help raise money for the Tohuko Earthquake victims in Japan, 2011 (go here to read about the comp: www.andrecords.jp/benefit/english.html). The track was never released elsewhere, so I'm uploading it here. I added lyrics, because I had a little free time on my hands and I like editing text for some weird reason. Side N...

radical face - welcome Home (guitar tutorial)
Hi Ben, Just to let you know your music has saved my life multiple times. You a generational musician and i thank god every day i explored your catalogue. I’ve been listening to you for years but your music never seems to get old. Thank you.
omg i've been looking everywhere for this, couldn't remember the name but finally found it. was obsessed with this when i was in high school
8:45 This section to the end of the song is perfect. The entire song breaks down the character, and this rescuing part of the plot is musically portrayed so well.
8:30 Rick's part straight into Ben's yelping here is just perfect. Never heard something like that in music before, personally.
💚
❤
[Verse 1] I've got no need for open roads Cause all I own fits on my back I see the world from rusted trains And always know I won't be back Cause all my life is wrapped up in today No past or future here If I find my name's no good I just fall out of line [Chorus] But I miss you But there's comin' home There's no comin' home With a name like mine I still think of you But everyone knows Yeah everyone knows If you can, let it go [Verse 2] I seen more places than I can name And over time they all start to look the same But it ain't that truth we chase No, it's the promise of a better place But all this time, I been chasin' down a lie And I know it for what it is But it beats the alternatives So I'll take the lie [Chorus] I still miss you There's no goin' home There's no goin' home With a name like mine I still dream of you But everyone knows Yeah everyone knows If you can, let it go
es una obra de arte
I always listen to this song a hundred times😆😆😆
Amazing!
I have brothers like this that I left behind in NY. But I did all the things he said they never did. I've traveled all of America searching from the entire west coast to all the middle all the way to NY. I found my four brothers there and was never homeless again.
Thank You
Astonishing 😊
клон - это олицетворение моего внутреннего мира
я люблю своего брата, хоть он и дибил
bellissima
You once again struck a balance between uplifting and depressing, and I'm here for it. Thank you ❤
It's giving me that Electric President nostalgia! I love the song, and the art in all its incarnations : )
Every time you release a new song, I get inspired to write and draw my own stories. It's like a hit of vision and sound that I can't find anywhere else these days.
Ben you did it again! You never fail to disappoint. Such great music!
すき。
love
Hit the like button before the first note knowing I wouldn't regret it. Love the sound Ben, really missed these!! Much love.
i did it!
Love! <3
You certainly articulate what being human means better than anyone out there. It's not hyperbole to say you are my favorite song writer of all time.
Well thank you, fellow human.
I can’t believe you wrote this in one day. I absolutely love it!
it has those Electric President vibes that I love, amazing <3
I was gonna say the same thing! Great stuff and what a hit in the nostalgia vein
I think that's just what happens when I write with an electric guitar and pedals, instead of an acoustic guitar and a piano.
Nice one... Ben, don't forget to bring us book 2 ;) By the way: How amazing it would be to experience it in a cinema...
It's basically all I work on, so I don't think I could forget. I just have about 100 more paintings to finish, and then a ton of animation to do. So ... a couple thousand more hours and it'll be ready. Hahaha. But every day moves it closer.
The master has returned! Any new albums in the works?
People still listen to albums? Ha. But yeah, I'm mostly working on "A Light in the Woods" part two at the moment.
@@BenVonElectricFace Ouch! Looking forward to the new album! Your music has always helped me out during dark periods but always enjoy listening to them
Great song! Is the album art one of your drawings as well recorded?
Yup. Just something I painted on my ipad. Programs like Procreate record all the brush strokes, and you can export them as little videos like this. I think they're fun to watch.
Human Mother is the best because my mother isn't human at all so Human Mother fills in the gaps of my humanity I missed when growing up
I'm just here to provide Human Music for Humans and their Human needs.
@@BenVonElectricFace thank you so much!
One of the best songs ive heard in my generation. Listen to it often. Really touches me.
come here because the back list
Wow. What an incredible visual!! The writing, production and edit are all top notch!! I originally found this record from an episode of "Blacklist". And it's been in my playlist ever since.
Been looking for this song since I heard it in A Happy Medium 5! Thanks for these brilliant musical experiments!
❤️
This is really, really good, Ben 🙂
Absolutely in love with this. Will it make it to Spotify?
You're always amazing, Ben. Come one day to Peru please.
Definitely getting the good tinglies from this
This hit the same chord as When I Was Done Dying. A whimsical melancholia. I really dig it, thank you 💜
Mind blown.
I love the artwork that accompanies this song- creates a very unique vibe that makes you stop and think for a moment. Already a new favorite! Thank you 🙏
Wooooo new Human Mother!!!!
Glad to see you're still here with us.
Not dead yet!
Your art overflows my soul, thank you Ben! Greetings from Colombia!@@BenVonElectricFace
♥️✨
This is just a masterpiece. I will never be tired to listening to this song. ❤
beautiful song. i am just learning it now. is that the guitar you used to record this song
Show your hands If you need a new coat of paint If your bones are now heavy things Like anchors hidden somewhere 'neath your skin Or if your head's just an empty box If your heart has become spare parts If your days are now just something you must bear Well, oh, it seems you're a lot like me You dug yourself into places You never thought you would be But don't you fret, and don't you mind The only constant is change And you never know what you'll find Yeah, tomorrow I might wake up nice and clean And I might believe the things I said I didn't mean And this might turn and wind up just the way we'd dreamed And I might become the things I swore I'd always be Well, we're always on our way We're on our way Well, we're always on our way We're on our way Well, we're always on our way We're on our way Well, we're always on our way We're on our way
In my youth, I was a Pink Floyd fan, and I would sit staring at lyrics on an album and concentrate and imagine as I listened. I get that same type of experience here, which is fantastic: I get to read the words on the screen, but also get to experience part of the story with its graphics: the numbers and codes, the loading and stats…. All very engaging. The lyrics, music, and vocals are top notch, and I’m definitely curious to see where our hero heads next! Great work!
